The body and mind has to be slowly and meticulously be prepared to receive the full energy of awakening.
These are not mere words. This is a literal truth.
A pure mind can easily absorb the energy. A scattered mind full of desires, anger , hatred, ego cannot absorb the energy and the person perishes
