Hiranyakashipu was evil Rakshasa. His son Prahlad was very devoted to Vishnu. His father tried to have Prahlad killed in many ways
Ultimately Narsinh Avatar emerged from a heated column. He killed Hiranyakashipu

Prahlad grandson was Bali. Bali was pure abd pious. During his reign there was no famine and everyone was happy. He performed a Raj suya yagna involving a horse. Many attended. Vishnu appeared as Vaman. He was very short.
Shukracharya warned him not to go to Vaman. He did and Vaman asked for 3 and half steps of land. As soon as Bali said of course – Vaman became gigantic and in 3 steps covered all three gross, subtle and casual ( karana). The last half step Bali offered himself
Now the entire story from Hiranyakashipu to Narsinh to Vaman are steps of Kriya yoga
