Jyoti mudra part 2

In the SRF lessons Yogananda has described the jyoti mudra

I do not think it should have been described or given to the public in general

There are several reasons

1. If not done purposely it can cause permanent damage to eye
2. Some people may not be suitable for it due to certain anatomical issues
3. The physical posture – stimulation of retina can show light Phosphene. It is not true light. Refer to what Yogananda wrote in chaper 6 god talks with Arjuna. This gives a false sense of ego and progress.
4. There is a missing step to Jyoti mudra that people are not aware of

Many people tell me of seeing light. There are ways to tell if it is true or not.

1. Go to a very dark room with out any source of external light See if you see light

Anyway. Enough said. Continue your path. Remain humble. Careful
Goal is elimination of ego. Don’t focus on light or sounds. They are steps. Just like kriya ( shaking of body, recitation of words , hearing words)

Don’t think of being a Guru or teaching ! What is written in all the text books is trivial and of little value. When you rely on your inner experience and understand the true meaning of for example Ramayana and you laugh and say what an artistic display of meditation, including the smaller details of the different monkeys and bears then you will have self discernment. The world is simply not ready.

There is a mad rush to feel important
A mad rush to think you have made progress
A mad rush to teach when you remain ignorant
A mad rush of illusion of understanding
A mad rush to make money and physical pleasures
A mad rush of seeing success as fame

The greatest saints have remained in life – so simple. Many times in poverty. With all the powers of the world. Powers greater than that displayed by Jesus Christ or Yogananda or Lahiri In the Midst of everyone
Helping a few select disciples to a degree beyond imagination.
They are the great people who create God like disciples like Lahiri Mahasaya or Ramana Maharshi or Narsimh Mehta or Mirabai or Kabir
They permit 2-3 generations of such great lineage to continue and then stop the lineage.
Why stop the lineage? Fools who want publicity and ego walk with self acclaim and forget that the goal is elimination of ego. Humility. It is to merge in God.
What more would you need or want after that ?
