Compassion

“All meditation must begin with arousing deep compassion. Whatever one does must emerge from an attitude of love and benefitting others.” Milerepa

Compassion is something very strongly emphasized in Buddhism.
In Hinduism it is there. It is called karuna. It is a much better word. Compassion inherently means someone is inferior or needs help

That is good thought but not the best!
All are children of God and equal to you
Secondly, God does it all and helps more than we can This is an inherent deficiency in English language

That’s why karuna is a better word it concussions humility and a prayer for others to be helped

Now here he says “must emerge from an attitude of love and benefiting others.” So what is described here is meditate in God who is love and has karuna and when you emerge let your life goal be service to others

The sentence arouse – refers to churning of the heart. More later!
