I have forgotten to mention that of late, tasting the nectar has been more frequent. I am still ashamed of it – coming from a tradtion where drinking the nectar regularly was a significant characterestic, I have perhaps tasted it only seldom.
Gurudev tasted and drank the nectar regularly. One Gurupurnima in 1982, when all the disciples were there, he announced the glory of Yoga and drinking the nectar. He said, “Bring the deadliest snake in this world and have the snake bite me and see that nothing will or can happen to this body” Obviously, no one disrepected Gurudev and followed through. However, Gurudev wanted to prove his point. He asked his disciples to bring a thread. The disciples brought a thread and Gurudev put the thread in his palate (where the nectar drips) and took the thread out. He then asked the disciples to burn the thread (even after it dried). The thread COULD NOT be burnt.
This morning I had tasted a fraction of a drop of the nectar. How do I know that it was not a sinus post nasal drip?
1) I dont have sinusitis or cold symptoms
2) It tasted similar to the nectar Gurudev gave me in his presence when he took me to Samadhi
3) A drop or a fractiion of a drop makes the whole mouth become sweet. Generally with nasal drip etc, the taste is just restricted to an area of the mouth. Here even with a minute drop, the whole mouth relishes the sweetness – like a drop of phenolpthalien dropped in water makes the whole water pink
4) A more fuller experience of Agna chakra
Nectar comes in different flavors. The highest and the best flavor is sweetness which brings Brahma gyana. However, for immortality the process is a lot higher than just tasting it.
Gurudev explained the difference between Kevalgiriji Maharaj and Mohangiriji Maharaj. Kevalgiriji Maharaj did Khechari mudra and tasted nectar regularly hence his physical build was quite strong while Mohangiriji Maharaj avoided it and he looked quite thin.
I should mention about other people who Yogananda mentioned in his Autobiography of a Yogi who lived by the nectar (constantly, not the once every 10 year taste I may have) such as Giri bala and Saint Theresa.
Lastly, I will end with the words in the Bible “Man should live by the word of God” – when at Agna chakra, when one lives by the Word or Aum or the holy Ghost, he tastes the nectar and can live just with that! it is very satisfying for all the senses!
