Now everything in the scriptures are helpful and important
However there are some statements that helped me immensely. Here they are – but not in any specific order
- The experience that you gain from even a few seconds of super consciousness is enough to help you for long lasting changes. I found this very helpful. Gurudev stayed in that state for months and years. Without food. Impossible for me or anyone unless he permits So for me knowing this gave me peace! This is from Devatma Shakti Param Pujya Vishnutirthji Maharaj
- Happiness comes carrying a crown of pain. This is from Vivekananda. This helped me not to crave things in this world. Knowing pain is to follow. Even if the mind seeks things I am very cautious
- Ramkrishna said Keep going deeper. He gives the example of a woodcutter. He was cutting small shrubs and earning a living. He was quite happy. Then a Guru said, why don’t you go a little further. He initially said he was quite satisfied. But then one day he said let me try going in further. And lo and behold he saw a huge Forrest. He made a lot. Was happy. But then he suddenly remembered what the Guru said and went further. Lo and behold there was a silver mine. Wow he said this is the best. Kept mining. Then he remembered what the Guru said and kept going further ! There was a gold mine. This continued – diamond etc This going deeper is in reference to meditation. Keep going in deeper and deeper. It is an incredible journey. Whatever you think is high , there is something much higher.
- Difference between Nigrah And Sanyam – નિગ્રહ સંયમ. When you deny the pleasure you are doing nigrah. That is ineffective. It does not get rid of the desire. But merely suppresses it. Someday it will spring back into motion violently. In Sanyam – we focus on getting rid of the desire for the pleasure. Let’s say you love Pizza. You decide you won’t eat it. That is suppression. Sanyam is the way to go. You tell yourself I want you get rid of the desire for pizza. You have to be very astute, observant and catch on to the desire itself. You tell shakti please help me get rid of the desire itself! This may sound easy but it Is not! Suddenly you are saying and asking, God I never want money, fame, prestige, respect, lovely food etc. Suddenly the soul is bewildered. Oh what happen to me when this happens. Will this life be worth living. There is nothing for me. But remember getting of the desire does not take away the food or prestige or money away from you any more than wanting money doe’s not bring you money either! This is the true significance of Arjun Vishad yoga in Gita first chapter. Krishna if I kill my desire and attachment, will this life be worth it! I would rather beg than kill these desires!!! This difference between nigrah and sanyam was from Aurobindo Integral yoga
