Child – experience of pure consciousness

“In the spiritual life one becomes just like a little child, without resentment, without attachment, full of life and joy.”

“What are you afraid of? You are an immortal being. You are neither a man nor a woman, as you may think, but a soul – joyous, eternal.”

~ Paramahansa Yogananda
(Autobiography of a Yogi)

The fear is lost when one has the experience of pure consciousness. Until then humans remain fearful of the future, of life, of death, of consequences of karma, of superiors, of people in life, of illness etc

After the fear is lost, one suddenly realizes your the child of God, her infinite love holding us with her, and she nurtured us, tolerated us for eons and yet we did not realize it.

Truly something magnificent. This is not to be imagined but to be experienced after even thoughts and emotions are gone.

Where is the enemy

Learn to see God in all persons, of whatever race or creed. You will know what divine love is when you begin to feel your oneness with every human being, not before.

  • Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda,
    “The Law of Success”

The only enemy we had was our own personality. We held on to so many wrong things out of fear, vengeance, ego,and greed. How does a realized soul see others ? – With love and compassion. He does not compare nor does he think he is superior or more advanced. Those feelings of superior and advanced are for the ego.

In small steps, the divine Goddess releases us of those shackles. Those who she chooses not to liberate, will make spiritual progress but will remain in the shackles of ego, thinking themselves advanced and ahead of others. They compare their experiences and their knowledge.

I have no need for anything

Body

So long as we are immersed in body consciousness, we are like

strangers in a foreign country. Our native land is omnipresence.

Paramahansa Yogananda—Sayings of Paramahansa Yogananda

So this is the problem. When we sleep we are not aware of the body. When immersed in a wonderful movie we are not aware of the body. So is that pure consciousness? Of course not. But in foolishness we think we are in pure consciousness and consider ourselves to have advanced spiritually. Deep sleep is enjoyable and ananda or joy. But that is not progress.

Truly when in pure consciousness, the body ceases to breathe

Once you experience that, there is nothing like that

When can I see God

He is the nearest of the near, the dearest of the dear. Love Him as miser loves money,as an ardent man loves his sweetheart,as a drowning person loves breath. When you yearn for God with interest,He will come to you…
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
Where There Is Light… Page-183.

Ramkrishna described it the same way but he said, the desperate need for God should be more than the love of the miser, ardent man and drowning person desire for breath added together

Truly that kind of desire is rare. You may get a Guru. You may get many wonderful experiences. But who in the world can give you that kind of passion for God?

It comes slowly, sooner in the presence of the infective, presence of a divine

Witness attitude

My only interest in people is to help them. And as long as breath shall flow in this lungs, so long shall I try to help others and tell them to get away from this motion picture of delusion. Because you are a part of it now, you suffer. You must stand aside and watch it, and then you cannot suffer. When you are an observer, then you can enjoy this play. This is what you must learn. To God, this is only a movie, and you turn to Him,it will also be a picture show to you.
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
The Divine Romance. P.116

Sankhya shastra describes the divine attitude. Sankhya was created by Kapil Muni. Many people believe Kapil muni is an incarnation of shesh nag.
Who is shesh nag?
There is an ocean of milk. (Kshir sagar) In the ocean of milk, Vishnu bhagwan lies in it, sleeping on a bed made by Shesh Nag coiling up. And from this umbilicus, Brahma is created in a lotus flower. And Brahma then created the universe

Now this is of course an allegory of an experience in meditation. The ocean of milk refers to chandra chakra. I have written about it in great detail elsewhere. But the description is perfect!

So although Yogananda described this with great ease, our constant problem is we identify by force of habit with our mind and emotions. We cannot be a witness. Thats why I am amused by the foolishness of so many wonderful Gurus, they preach witness attitude, talk and write volumes, but dont tell anyone how to disassociate from the mind and emotions

And yet people will follow them by the thousands! Oh what a play and drama you have created Divine mother!

Private talks Yogananda

Everything is God. This very room and the universe are floating like a motion picture on the screen of my consciousness…. I look at this room and I see nothing but pure Spirit, pure Light, pure Joy… The picture of my body and your bodies and all things in this world are only rays of light streaming out of that one sacred Light. As I see that Light I behold nothing anywhere but pure Spirit.

-Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda,
talking to disciples at SRF Asram,
Encinitas, California

I read this somewhere where Yogananda talked about this in a private talk. This has not been published so I cannot verify it.
The question is, does the realized person see the world or divine light?
If we are to believe Ramkrishna, he said to Narendra (later known as Vivekananda), I see God more clearly than I see you!
How is that possible? The look at the light that creates the shadows, and stop focusing on the shadows. But first you must master seeing God in a very very dark room, where no external light can penetrate.
Once you do that, you are approaching the Manas chakra. After that you need a few more decades of flawless hard work.

Satsang part 3

There is constant exchange of magnetism between you and your surroundings and people with whom you come in contact. For example, on meeting someone, you may become aware that something is happening to you, you are actually receiving a current from that person. In order to receive another’s magmatism, you must be near him.
When you shake hands with someone, a magnet is created, and you exchange magmatism. If you are more powerful or positive one, you will give the other person your vibrations, but if are weaker, you will receive his vibrations. This explains why people unconsciously like to shake hands of famous men and women.
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
The Divine Romance. P.132

This is the mechanism how someone who is pure and advanced, being Around that person and his words helps us. If you truly wish to make progress , be around such persons.
Now what happens if there are many people around enlightened person? That enlightened person can send very powerful focused vibrations to only one or two persons.

And those people will benefit the most !

That’s why the most powerful thing is Satsang. It changes the world and people

The great sentences of ancient Rishi’s still vibrate in perfect unison with the divine. All you have to do is change and match those words and reaching the divine will be easier

Satsang part 2

Regarding Arjuna’s query to Krishna, it can be said that people misuse the coercive power of habit to perform evil, while they should use that force only to perform good. Ignorance, lack of watchfulness, want of discretion in selecting right actions, and carelessness in choosing proper friends often entrap a person in a quicksand of bad habits that draws him down against his will. The influence of constant association is usually stronger than that of judgment or will power. Good or bad company is more potent than one’s inner resistance. The devotee who has noticed this fact might be moved to ask: “Why is it, Lord that saints so easily act nobly, while wicked persons seem to be forced to act malevolently?”

~ Sri Paramahansa Yogananda,
3 : 36, God talks with Arjuna,
The Bhagavad Gita

Here, Yogananda Maharaj gives us the necessary ingredient to change our habits. Lets say you like alcohol. Or you have the tendency to get depressed or anxious or angry. You want to get rid of it. You can hear a thousand lectures and say to yourself you will not get upset but it wont work. And then you resort to medications or other means. Now I am not against medications but dont you want to change your mind also, so you never have those issues in future births? So here are the steps Yogananda Maharaj gave

  1. Stay in the company of those who have the positive habits. If it is alcohol, stay in the company of those who never drink. If it is anger or anxiety stay in the company of someone who is always at peace. Watch them, Be with them. Steal their positive aura and leap forward
  2. Be aware of your own emotions. You will not conquer it immediately. It takes time. Your best friend is having patience and faith
  3. The inner urge to change must be there. Not having that is ignorance. That is something someone else cannot give you. I have talked with people who have anxiety, and their answer is, oh this is my personality. It cant be changed. Its God fault he gave me this personality. Here their own ego clouds their ability to accept their own bad habit. Who can help them? No one
  4. Deep meditation. This can achieve step 1 and 2. Very quickly. Once you are within, use the peace and light of God to penetrate every cell of your body. Of course, this sounds like poetic words, and it is poetic words, unless you learn the art of true meditation. If there is any question, that one should constantly ask, is how can I calm my mind, how can I meditate. Now someone may tell you the steps but you will not be able to absorb all the steps for a while. Not to worry. Be patient. At some point it will click.

There are many layers to learning meditation. You need constant advise to pass through all the steps. Some steps can cause damage to the body if not done properly. (Truly). Thats why Gurus refuse to give secrets in the open and they are satisfied with having 3 or 4 disciples. The rest may follow but unable to grasp the true meaning, they go to other Gurus very quickly when their Guru takes Samadhi. I have seen many such weak disciples. Sad for them

Satsang

If you have a mind that absorb everything like blotting paper, you must keep that mind free from evil influences. Just as a blotting paper that has become soaked with split oil will no longer absorb water, so must your mind first be saturated with good until it becomes impervious to evil.
Be strong in your own goodness, and try to be helpful to others. The man who only looks out for for himself and his own family won’t find much happiness. If he doesn’t think of anyone else who might be suffering, he denies himself the joy of helping another, so his own cup of satisfaction will remain small. Money means to me just one thing, that: I can use to do good and help others.
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
The Divine Romance. P.114

So, it is very clear that one must constantly be in the company of good people. The best is to be in the company of those who are liberated. Just in their company, the constant radiant aura that glows around them changes everything in the world. It may not happen quickly by our standards but it is very quick based on the cosmic time standards.

Nowadays there is a huge shortage of such liberated people. Maybe there are a few (one or two) that are in public. So even if you cant be in their company then being in the company of benevolent people is helpful

The next few sentences should strike fear. Almost all people in the world are heavily vested in doing good for their family. Very few constantly immerse themselves in doing good for others. There are many in need. What you do, for your family is not anything extra ordinary. It is a self chosen responsibility. You must fulfill it. If you wish to have major happiness in future life, financial security, do good for others. If you go back and see the lives of Ambani, you can see the trail of how their past deeds brought money. Unfortunately, it will be impossible for them to continue those deeds for future lives

What do the enlightened feel

Eternity yawns at me below, above, on the left and on the right, infront and behind, with in and without.
With open eyes I behold myself as the little body. With closed eyes I perceive myself as the cosmic centre around which revolves the sphere of eternity, the sphere of bliss, the sphere of omniscient, living space.

-Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda,
“Metaphysical Meditations”

Now many people do this kind of chanting and repetition but isnt it better to work very hard to experience it, by repeatedly forgetting body existence?

Annapurna stotram

These verses were composed by Shankaracharya Maharaj

There is a story that Lord Shankar talked about the illusory nature of the world.
Now the word , the world is an illusion is grossly misunderstood. Yes we can say it is an illusion when you no longer have a body. But while you have a body and all your karma has not been dealt with, you will have to suffer the consequences.

So Lord Shankar when he talked about the illusionary nature of the world, Annapurna, the other name of Paravati , was not very pleased. She said, no more food for anyone on the world. (Anna – generally is thought to mean food). Well as you can imagine, the consequences in the world were not very good. Although the followers of advaita were committed to it, not all could convert material existence to food. There was an issue, so finally Shankar Bhagwan went to Varanasi where food was still available. There he saw a place which was freely giving food in abundance to everyone. Lo and Behold, the place was run by Goddess Annapurna

There are not many more stories on Goddess Annapurna. If you want to know more about her, you should read the shlokas written by Shankaracharya Maharaj on her

https://greenmesg.org/stotras/annapoorna/annapoorna_stotram.php

A word of caution – Goddess Annapurna is the original Goddess and the word Anna does not relate to food. It relates to all the bodies the soul is encassed in. It is she, who supplies us with the bodies, as our soul constantly has desires of the three worlds. She is the Goddess who can liberate us also from all the demands, we so foolishly impose on her. I suspect merely listening to the shloka for those in the right frame of mind, she instantly gives freedom. Those who have not read the original shlokas will be deceived by the translation and meaning. In the original verse, there is a description of the highest state of Yoga

Aum Shiv Parvati Namah, Aum Shankracharyaya nama

Tattva shuddhi

Aum Aim Atma Tatva shodhayami Nama: swaha
Aum Hrim Vidhya Tatva shodhyami Nama: swaha
Aum Klim Shiva tatva shodhayami Nama: swaha
Aum Em Hrim Klim Sarva Tatvam Shodhyami Nama: Swaha

These are steps of shuddhi

This is not just the sankalpa that Brahmins have you do with water but much more!

Steps to getting rid of worry

Seems easy
But is difficult

Each time a swarm of worries invades your mind, refuse to be affected; wait calmly, while seeking the remedy. Spray the worries with the powerful chemical of your peace.

Paramahansa Yogananda-in a Para-gram

Your peace – your self realization as Atman or pure consciousness

Refuse to be affected – stand back. Don’t go back to the habit of worrying. It is a habit of the mind, emotions and intellect. Ego makes you believe that if you don’t worry the out come will be bad. We are afraid not to worry. And we don’t want to forget either.

While seeking the remedy. It is foolish to ignore the worry. You must work hard to correct the situation. But not worry. While working on situation do your job well. When your done with it you must forget it and go about your other responsibility instantly.

Power of a true smile

You Have Power; You Do Not Use It……….
“””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””
Do you think that you have been completely unsettled by circumstances– ruffled, shattered, whipped, lacking power? Banish such thoughts! You have power; you do not use it. You have all the power you need. There is nothing greater than the power of the mind. Resurrect your mind from the little habits that keep you wordly all the time. Smile that perpetual smile– that smile of God. Smile that strong smile of balanced recklessness — that million dollar smile that no one can take from you…..
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
Journey To Self-realization.P.338

A word of caution

True smile. Is joy from within
It does not depend on outward circumstances or person

We always feel happy when back in our comfort hole – this includes friends and home. This brings A smile but not the true smile of being within

There is a certain joy within. Unexplainable. It is very Deep. When you get that you look like an idiot. I am not kidding. Why? They are the crazy people who laugh and smile when adverse circumstances strike them

This is a training field. Elsewhere I have mentioned it. During my right times in life, God increase the joy of mediation a thousand times. So it was his way to remind me he is there. But the outside circumstances were rough. It was difficult to maintain that inner joy for more than a few hours

However that iNner joy has the ability to change outside circumstances

What about those who cannot have the insert joy?

The mind has two options. Looking at the outside world and circumstances. Or inner God and joy. When your deep immersed in the turmoil is life, what Paramhansa Yogananda is saying, break the outside turmoil, by a smile. Use that to touch the inner joy. That in turn gets rid of outside circumstances Only if your inner connection is with God and not for selfish interest to correct outside life

Difficult.
But I say the truth!

Be careful of your thoughts – why?

“As water by cooling and condensation becomes ice, so thought by condensation assumes physical form. Everything in the universe is thought in material form. The spirit could not create matter as anything different from itself, for it had only itself as the tissue or material with which to build the cosmos.
There is essentially nothing in the universe but mind or Consciousness. Everything is spirit – in essence, though hidden in manifestation. If you had the perception, you would see God in everything.”

~ Paramahansa Yogananda

But if you think bad thoughts of others , you will have to endure bad happening to you. Even if the other person hurt you first.

There is no such thing as righteous indignation as per Swami Vivekananda

Patanjali gave ultimate secret of karma in yoga sutra based on this

Wisdom or Gyana

When Wisdom comes, her first lesson is,
“There is no such thing as knowledge; there are only apercus of the Infinite Deity.”
Sri Aurobindo.

Here the word wisdom refers to experiencing God. Everything else including bookish knowledge of God is considered Avidya or ignorance

Apercus means entertainment

To say this more clearly

Once you have an experience of God. A true true complete experience of God. You laugh at all the books, vedas and upanishads and Gita. Your no longer interested in any of the books!

So this is a true mark that you made your first complete connection with God.

Once you have God, would you really care about what God said 5000 years ago? Or hot to reach God? Or all the theories Of God. Or theories of karma?

Yogananda said, I have not read any books in last 30 years of my life. Yet he know everything

But reading blogs of those who reached there can certainly guide

A sign of greatness!

Generally people think the more popular a person, he must be great. That’s what democracy works on. Popular vote. Not on merit. Just on perceived talent. Now most of the people who have an opinion don’t necessarily evaluate the candidate or care about it

So what about in religion? Sadly it is the same thing. Somehow, we believe the more popular the person, more number of disciples the teacher or saint is better! Our mind cannot grasp public opinion is not a sign of greatness. However many people are not secures in their opinion. They have the innate need for more people to think it is accurate

So let’s come to the point
How many people in this world truly want God. Not perceives love. True love. A love where just hearing the name of God tears run down your cheek? How many prefer God to a lavish meal or sex or having a million likes? Very few.

If Jesus waited for those kind of people to like Him he would be an unknown. His popularity came a century after he left the body While he was in body he was disliked – not only by the king but often times even in the villages he visited. And he wanted others to give up their wealth and follow him !

Now do you get the point?

So don’t be after public opinion. Do what is right! Because it is right. Don’t argue with anyone. They have a right to their opinion. When get want to grow, when things off the world are no longer charming they will change and seek a teacher who offers those values. Usually they have very few followers and such teachers are very rare.

This is what Yogananda said

Getting along with people does not mean agreeing with anybody, and it does not mean that you should sacrifice your ideals for their sake. That is not kind of getting along that I mean. But you can maintain your ideals without being offensive. In fact, from the standpoint, Jesus Christ did not get along with many during his time. But he maintained his ideals without being repugnant. He certainly got along with himself, for he knew that what he was doing was right. And he said, ” To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth.”……

Gayatri Mantra and photosynthesis

I want to talk about sunlight – the external sun and how its light is used by plants to make food. Without sunlight, there is no plants. Without plans no animals can survive and so eventually all life would perish. So, we are entirely dependent on the sunlight

So deep inside the sun, not in the surface, there is a huge nuclear reactor. Where two molecules of hydrogen, are heated up so enormously that the two molecules of hydrogen join together and form helium. As they do that, the generate a lot lot lot more heat and energy than that was needed to get the nuclear reactor started.

Now that ray of light, takes millions of years to come from the deep deep layers of the sun to the surface. From the surface of the sun, it comes to earth in 8 min.
Now that light or photon (which is energy particle of light) will hit the chlorophyll molecule and dislodge a single electron) from the cholorphyll. This dislodged electron is called exciton. Somehow it must go through layers and layers of a maze and other dense celllular particles to the center of the cell. It does it in a millionth of a millionth of a second without loosing any energy. It is a 100% effective.

Now this is the beauty of the transmission. Light, the sunlight and if you like to call it the gift of life or God, I am ok with it, when it becomes the exciton, – the energy source is not a particle at that point. It is a wave, which like God, spreads everywhere in waves. In all directions and is present everywhere in the cell. And at the center of the cell, it becomes a particle again and becomes pure energy that the leaf, tree etc can use !

This is quantum physics of life. This is a long video, but most certainly very fascinating.

https://youtu.be/q4ONRJ1kTdA. The cell description in video, I believe is around 44 min.

So, now what is the Gayatri mantra. This is a mantra that is a tribute to the Sun and the hopes are that the magnificent sun power can be utilized by those who do the mantra properly

This is a sacred mantra described in Hindu literature. Some people believe it is worship of Sun God. Others believe it is worship of the sun present in Agna chakra
The rules are the recitation rights are only given to brahmins. Now of course this is not true. But brahmin is a specific word used in hinduism used to denote purity. However the kind of purity needed is no longer found anywhere in the world.
It is a specific mantra – which many people recite. In order to get true effects and benefits – the mantra is real – you need 1.5 million recitations – done mostly sitting at the same location over a short time frame. Moreover, during that time frame, since it can months, you are only allowed to eat fruits and very simple food, eat only once a day, self cook etc.
There is another easier way, which is where a Guru has worked hard and awakened all the potential of the mantra and he just simply gives it to you.

Now of course, everyone who reads these blogs have the vanity that they can accomplish everything by simply reading and memorizing, but little do they know and have most certainly not seen the powers of an awakened shakti. So they remain delusional

God – is he everywhere?

He exists in two forms. Simultaneously. The one beyond all creation. The other in the smallest of small atom, proton, quark, lepton , boson. In fact all the energy of boson and the four fundamental forces of life come from him.
Thus he is both everywhere and no where and in this world and beyond the world. He is the World and oversees the world
Take any combination of words.

There now your can preach and impress others with a complexity of words and look smart.

No read to pray or read or meditate. I am being sarcastic

This is what Yukteshwar said

Favorite quotes . . . Here’s mine

It is the Spirit of God that actively sustains every form and force in the universe; yet He is transcendental and aloof in the blissful uncreated void beyond the worlds of vibratory phenomena -Swami Sri Yukteswar

Death

Here Is a description of death. BUT THIS IS THE DESCRIPTION OF DEATH FOR THOSE WHO HAVE SUBSTANTIAL PURITY

IT DOES NOT APPLY FOR THOSE WHO ARE SELFISH OR HAVE DONE BAD DEEDS.

PLUS THE COMMITTING SUICIDE FOLLOWS A DIFFERENT COURSE

But for those with good deeds not to fear ( good deeds measured by God not your Own ego )

“Though the ordinary human being looks upon death with dread and sadness, those who have gone before know it as a wondrous experience of peace and freedom. At death, you forget all the limitations of the physical body and realize how free you are. For the first few seconds there is a sense of fear — fear of the unknown, of something unfamiliar. But after that comes a great realization, a joyous sense of relief and freedom. You know that you exist apart from the mortal body.
Every one of us is going to die someday, so there is no use in being afraid of death. There is nothing to fear. When death comes, laugh at it. Death is only an experience through which you are meant to learn a great lesson: you cannot die.
Our real self is immortal. We may sleep for a little while in that change called death, but we can never be destroyed. We exist, and that existence is eternal. The wave comes to the shore, and then goes back to the sea; it is not lost. It becomes one with the ocean, or returns again in the form of another wave. This body has come, and it will vanish; but the essence within it will never cease to exist. Nothing can terminate that eternal consciousness.
Even a particle of matter or a wave of energy is indestructible, as science has proved; the spiritual essence is also indestructible. Matter undergoes change; the soul undergoes changing experiences. Radical changes are termed death, but death or a change in form does not change or destroy the spiritual essence.
The body is only a garment. How many times you have changed your clothing in this life, yet because of this you would not say that you have changed. Similarly, when you give up this bodily dress at death you do not change. You are just the same.
The word “death” is a great misnomer, for there is no death.”
~ Paramahansa Yogananda

Inadequate translation

I did not reveal this for a long time. Many times j have hinted in my blogs about faith. Even in prashnoupanishad, it is said God First created prana and then faith

Faith is important everywhere. It is important in business relation, family relations, spouse relations and just in general to run the world

In the Bible it is said that if you have faith as little as mustard seed you can move mountains

So what is faith?

Yogananda reveals the secret but it is still a little slanted. The rest I will leave to the astute reader.

The Indian word , Sanskrit word is Vishwas. Shwas means breathing. Vi can be taken as special or oppposite to breathing. Sadly in a public forum I can’t reveal more details

This is what Yogananda said

In calmness, intuition gives birth to Faith…..
“””””””””””””””””””””””””‘”””””””””
The Sanskrit word for faith is wonderfully expressive. It is VISVAS. The common literal rendering, ” to breathe easy ; have trust; be free from fear,” does not convey the full meaning. Sanskrit svas refers to the motions of the breath, implying thereby life and feeling. Vi conveys the meaning of “opposite; without. “That is, he whoes breath, life, and feeling are calm, he can have faith born of intuition; it cannot be possessed by persons who are emotionally restless. The cultivation of intuitive calmness requires unfoldment of the inner life. When developed sufficiently, institution brings immediate comprehension of truth. You can have this marvellous be realization. Meditation is the way………
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.

Sensitive

We get it all wrong. We are sensitive to things that offend us. But not sensitive to the v feelings of others.
Such is a manifestation of ego

It is easy to understand. But time and again we fall prey to our ego and get hurt

All the world problems right now , the discrimination issues are from this. If everyone looked at it differently and cared about others and less worried about their own feelings the world would be peaceful

A perfect example was Sita. She never cared about her self. But lived every second for others and and Ram.

Now the idiots of the world think she was unfortunate and sad. Maybe the Ramanand Sagar version of Sita showed her to be crying all the time have that impression

The truth was she was the primal Goddess herself. One look and she could destroy all the world. Yes she lived with love. Forgiving all and enduring This is what Ramayana is about. She is the central figure of Ramayana

Even right now, she forgives all our mistakes and endures all the insults we give her.

And she left an example. Hope everyone should be. Instead the world degenerate to the exact opposite

This is what Yogananda said

Don’t be touchy or oversensitive…

Sensitiveness expresses itself in a lack of control over the nervous system. A thought of being offended runs through the mind and the nerves rebel against it. In reacting, some persons see the inwardly with anger or hurt feelings and show no irritation outwardly. Others express their emotions in an obvious and instant reaction in the muscles of their eyes and face and often in a sharp retort of their tongue as well. In either case, to be touchy is to make one-self miserable, and to create a negative vibration that also adversely affects others. To be able always to spread an aura of goodness and peace should be the motive of life. Even if there is good reason for being excited because of mistreatment, one who instead controls himself in such a situation is master of himself.

Excerpts from the writings of Paramahansa Yogananda

Was Ramana Maharshi a yogi?

Well, he talks about observing where ego or thoughts come from.
He gives everyone freely, and discusses ideas

But…
But , in some dialogue he very clearly talks About yoga. He even talks about kriya yoga

This is a clear indication of him talking in terms of yoga

The sattvic mind resolves itself into
the Life-current.
Q.: Can one keep the mind away from
entering into the phase of thoughts
before one experiences the current?
M.: Yes; the current is
pre-existent.
-Talk 91.

Life current is prana. The entire basis of yoga. It is not breathing. But something that is far more subtle and present everywhere.
In humans and animals turn can be seen in action

He talks about mind resting in prana. Of course there is much more to it. But that I will talk later

Yogananda, sadly gave a lot more accurate details on it. The world is not ready and for now it will remain hidden.

Those lines should not be published and SRF should omit them

Anyway a pure mind finds it easy to rest in prana. An impure mind that craves name, money sex or wishing to talk and educate others cannot rest in it.

Hence all spiritual matters require total purity.

For the pure in heart shall see God

Our problem is we lowered the standards of purity so much that everything impure is now called pure. Just go to an eulogy. You will think Jesus was born again.

Truthfully God does not lower set standards of purity. It remains as is. It is up to us to love God. That is purity Love him more than all the things in the world.

Are you willing for that transformation?

I know you are not ready yet. You want a little more of the wonders of the world !

Hence Yogi remain alone and aloof

Vegetarian or Non veg

A common debate.
Recently someone sent me a video by SadGuru, about his take on Veg versus non veg.

For a Yogi, this is no debate. Anything that increases your attachment to a body is not good for meditation

Now of course there is no scientific study out there. But a yogi, it does not matter
Consciousness is not a subject of scientific study to begin with.

If you want to know what science says about vegetarian versus non veg., dont go to SadGuru. He is not a scientist. There is an abundance of information on it in medical journals, botanical journals.

What I say about it, will no doubted have my own bias. This bias is generated by information by Patanjali, Holy Science and Raj Yoga as written by Vivekananda.

I am clear on this. Medical science has not touched the surface of pure consciousness. Ask a Yogi for that..A true yogi who can touch pure consciousness. Go beyond the three bodies of the soul

I am yet to see any current so called Guru talk about causal body, describe it…let alone, describe the divine experiences in it.

If their experiences are limited to the gross physical body, they cannot help me in my quest

On the other hand, if someone wants to reach those layers of the consciousness, dont you think they should talk with someone who has gone there?

What we lack

God is readily available. What we lack is a strong desire for him

Yes. When we have pain inn life, physical challenges, health issues, financial or legal issues, social issues we wonder about the world. But that is not Rankit truly seeking God is it? It is our way of dealing with the problem. And sometimes we seek God during those times plus alcohol or drug or medications. We are simply looking for a super natural solution more than just seeking God.

After repeated such issues, something inside is snaps. It truly snaps. The smart soul, finally says no more. If I come back repeatedly and have the same garbage issues , I refuse to come back. I want permanent peace. Now peace is another name for God. So when you seek permanent peace whether you believe in God or not you’re seeking him.

Unlike the shallow minded religions, god does not care if you call Him peace or Shiv. He responds. ( Shankar means giver of peace) And then he sends a Guru

All the pleasure of life , when repeated you get tired of it. You may love food. But at some point you get tired of it. Same thing with travel or sex. But it does not last. A few days or months later the desire crops up again. Why ? Samskar or a habit that we created in the mind.

Anyway here is what Yogananda said

Change yourself everyday…..
“”””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””
Cut off the tentacles of the habits and kill the octopus mind that says it can’t be done. Just say, It can !”and then do it. Get rid of your bad habits. Change yourself everyday. Don’t be overwhelmed by all your responsibilities. Life was given that we might find the Eternal Life. Peace was given that we might find the Eternal Peace. Desire was given, not to be used for material things but that our need for Infinite be satisfied. If you would but seek Him a little more urgently, you would find Him. Doubt not !

The inquiry method

Ramana maharshi talked about the insurer method
On surface it looks like it is nit yoga and your contemplating

But that is not true. All the thoughts you have in the inquiry method becomes an object and is no longer the source

So he talks about who am I? And says find the I Now it seems simple. But the moment you try to find the I you go into speculation and Are unable to find the source. Your mine imagine you to be consciousness. Or you think when you find it out You will be great like Ramana. You can teach others. Or you may make money. Or your frustrated You get angry Your anger and frustration further clouds the discovery of the source of I

So this method of who am I requires silence and calmness of mind and emotions. Plus requires giving up desires. The self being perfect has no desires.

Not so Easy is it?

Enjoy the following conversation

From ~~~ Day by Day with Bhagavan, 3-1-46.

Mr. Joshi put five questions.
I give below the questions and Bhagavan’s answers.

Question 1:
Should I go on asking ‘Who am I?’ without answering?
Who asks whom? Which bhavana (attitude)
should be in the mind at the time of enquiry?
What is ‘I’ the Self or the ego?

Answer:
In the enquiry ‘Who am I?’, ‘I’ is the ego. The
question really means, what is the source or origin of this
ego? You need not have any bhavana in the mind. All that is
required is, you must give up the bhavana that you are the
body, of such and such a description, with such and such a
name, etc. There is no need to have a bhavana about your real
nature. It exists as it always does; it is real and no bhavana.

Question 2:
I cannot be always engaged in this enquiry,
for I have got other work to do, and when I do such work I
forget this quest.

Answer:
When you do other work, do you cease to exist?
You always exist, do you not?

Question 3:
Without the sense of doership — the sense
‘I am doing’ — work cannot be done.

Answer:
It can be done. Work without attachment. Work
will go on even better than when you worked with the sense
that you were the doer.

Question 4:
I don’t understand what work I should do
and what not.

Answer:
Don’t bother. What is destined as work to be
done by you in this life will be done by you, whether you
like it or not.

Question 5:
Why should I try to realise? I will emerge
from this state, as I wake up from a dream. We do not make
an attempt to get out of a dream during sleep.

Answer:
In a dream, you have no inkling that it is a dream
and so you don’t have the duty of trying to get out of it by your
effort. But in this life you have some intuition, by your sleep
experience, by reading and hearing, that this life is something
like a dream, and hence the duty is cast on you to make an
effort and get out of it. However, who wants you to realise the
Self, if you don’t want it? If you prefer to be in the dream, stay
as you are.

With reference to question 4, Mrs. P. C. Desai quoting
the Bhagavad Gita asked Bhagavan, “If (as Arjuna was told)
there is a certain work destined to be done by each and we
shall eventually do it however much we do not wish to do it
or refuse to do it, is there any free will?”

Bhagavan said,
“It is true that the work meant to be
done by us will be done by us. But it is open to us to be free
from the joys or pains, pleasant or unpleasant consequences
of the work, by not identifying ourselves with the body or
that which does the work. If you realise your true nature
and know that it is not you that does any work, you will be
unaffected by the consequences of whatever work the body
may be engaged in according to destiny or past karma or
divine plan, however you may call it. You are always free
and there is no limitation of that freedom.”

Truth or fact?

fact can be sometimes be harmful…
“””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””””
Truth is always wholesome; fact can sometimes be harmful. However true it may be,a fact that goes against good is only a fact;it is not truth. Never reveal unpleasant facts that cause meaningless suffering to someone else, such as speaking out unnecessarily against the another character. This is often done to well known persons by sensation-seeking news papers or magazines. The motive is to hurt the individual’s reputation,or to reap plersonal gain in expense. Do not bring upon yourself the bad Karma that results from revealing harmful facts against others, when no true or noble purposes is served thereby. When you must evade, revealing some unpleasant fact, be sure you also avoid implying whar you are trying to hide. After all God is forgiving ; and we,His children, should be forgiving. Why should you be the medium of someone else’s harm.? Your hurtful action will rebound and harm you, too.
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
The Divine Romance… Page::39.

Often times when we utter things, even though true, we do it because we want to hurt others. Either from jealousy or anger. Or we want to have a bigger name / fame. Or win the heart of someone or the public

So this whole statement is a huge warning against all politicians through out the world – they all want to build their empire based on facts and then stoop lower to just blatant lies

This is not just true in politics. People do the same thing in social media. In relations. Gossip. Even in organized religion. Im social work. Everywhere

Organized religion is not spirituality. Spirituality is individual between disciple and Guru. Even those meetings are private. The disciple can openly tell his Guru his failings. The Guru doea not judge or tell others about your failings. All he wants us you to make progress

So now if you go back and think about it. We have committed this error many times over. Especially when in public position

Why ? Our goal was to achieve something in this world. We did not stop to think of our spiritual progress

Truth but itself – Sat is something very different. Everything bows to that luminous truth. That luminous truth also goes by the name Shiv. It is sometimes that starts by saying only God exists. Everywhere. Oh what an error I fell from thee. Know that truth we turn back. Repent. And merge into pure consciousness. That is spirituality. Now in that truth where is the scope of what others do or did. It is irrelevant to you going within

Saints are not heartless

So the world is in turmoil. So much agony. Disease. Misery. Crises.
People know of Babaji. Besides I am to believe there is Krishna, Rama, shakti, Jesus, Buddha. All full of loving and caring

Them why is they so much suffering! Oh I forgot, the famous Indian theory of Karma.

I am not sure we can explain fully why there is suffering. All convenient in theory. So now do you understand why I say saints are not heartless – is that true?

This is a story about Yogananda

The cosmic motion picture……
“”””””””'””‘””””””””””””””””””””‘”””
There is another angle about duality, or good and evil, that I want to explain to you. If a movie producer made motion pictures only of angels, and showed them in film houses morning, noon, and night every day, he would soon have to close up the business. He has to produce variety in order to attract people’s attention. The bad man makes the hero look so much better ! And we like plots that are filled with action. We don’t mind looking at exciting movies about danger and disaster because we know they know they are only pictures. I remember one time when I was taken to see a movie in which the hero died, it was such a tragedy ! So I stayed and watched the next showing of the picture until I saw the hero alive again, then I left the theatre.
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
The Divine Romance. P.114

What I find curious is that Yogananda knew it was a movie. Yet he could not bear it that the hero died. He went back again to watch the hero reappear So soft and caring was his heart

Now if they have so much caring even for a movie, how much more is their love for the grand motion picture ( which we call life) created by God. To us it is very very real. Of course they have a lot of caring.

So back to the real world. Why is there suffering and why do the saints not help. The truth is the saints have helped a lot. The burden of sin on this world is so immense that without the intervention of Saints the world would have perished a million times over.

On a cloudy day you don’t see the sun. Did the sun cease to exist? The cloud. Our karma blocks the sun ( God). Patanjali taught us about wind. When it blows, the clouds disperse the sun appears.

So the saints came and left messages and clues how to disperse clouds and have a bright shining sun in our life. Very few people will follow it. Everyone has their own notion on how to destroy karma and thus suffering. And many of them are partly true or incorrectly understood. What can be done?

From time to time I write about it. Yogananda talked about it. Many others did. But the saints have limitations in telling us precisely. Why it is a practical method. You can read books on how to drive. But you need an instructor how to drive to truly learn

We used to go out Guru place. We would not eat. But just meditate. And we would ask him are we doing it correctly. How do we correct the wandering mind? Etc. and 40 years later we finally learnt a few things. The one sentence go within. Seems simple but in reality has a lot of deeper meaning. It is only learnt through mediation.

Since it is complex, and truly takes a long time, intellectual discussion cannot give us an understanding but only meditation can , one has to learn the method practically. Since everyone has a different flaws the teaching is individualized

I still complain to the saints.

Yes Dorothy there is Kansas

The saints have a heart

Last minute

If you keep your mind with God, you will be Free……..

When desires come,be guided by wisdom, not by whim or stubbornness. If you can control your senses and keep your mind with God, you will be free. But if, on the last day when the time comes to go to the Heavenly Father, the angles say, “Do you like strawberry shortcake ?”and you answer, “Oh, yum, yum !”they will tell you, “Then you have to go back to America.” Or they may ask, “Do you like curry ?”Yes Lord!”. “Then go back to India. You can’t stay with the Father because your earthly desires are not finished.”
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
Journey To Self-realization.P.256.

Getting rid of desires is not so easy. They are buried deep in the mind. Which mind. Not the mind that You use in the body. But the mind deep deep in the causal body It is called causal or karana. Because it causes the body to emerge. The desires are buried deep in there

It first causes the subtle body and then gross body.

This is why I have repeatedly said, for most people yoga has not started. I have no desire to hear about the foolish imaginary meditation that people talk about. It is a definite science. All these steps have to be reversed.

3 greats have to be aligned do soul can be seen. Then soul has to say only shiv. Then in a fraction of a second journey is over. Or true journey has started.

So Yama niyama are steps for physical body. Pratyahar for subtle body , causal body prana control for all bodies. Samadhi is above soul level

If one gear is not aligned the engine won’t move. The Guru instantly knows if the person has a gear misaligned. He knows if the person wants to correct it. If there is no interest or you want to delay it by a few years, he won’t give awakening. If the interest is genuine Then he gives them true awakening which works with the disciple to correct the misaligned gear

Fix your engine. Your the mechanic open the manual. The scriptures. Then you are given the gift of power tools Guru and his shakti. Which you use to fix your engine

Then enjoy the ride of going within. The journey

Vyadha Gita

There are many Gita. The Gita that most people quote is Bhagvad Gita. But there is Ram Gita, Avdhoot Gita, Vyadha Gita, Uttar Gita, etc
Gita in sanskrit means song.
This is the celestial songs, which the greatest sages have made. These savants cannot be mimicked and everything else that people write is merely an understanding. These words of the Gita do not come from understanding but a spontaneous composition. The entire Mahabharat and Ramayan – epic works with more than 100,000 shlokas were a constant composition done continuously. What makes them grand is that they artistically interwove a story with the greatest secrets of Yoga.

Why the Yogic interpretation is not grasped? Because the people who read it are not yogis. At most you will get the understanding it is an indirect reference to Ego, or desires etc.

So back to the story. One can understand a Gita, a celestial song written by An Avadhoot or by Rama or Krishna. But what about a Gita written by a butcher?

Well, now is the time, if your orthodox for you to leave and stop reading. Maybe never come back to this blog.

So this is the story of Vyadha – literally meaning butcher. This story is found in Mahabharat.

There was a pious man, a saint. In his determined quest for God, he went to the forrest and meditated for years together. Finally after years of severe austerities and meditation, he achieved Samadhi. Now for those who meditate, Samadhi is something special. Very special. In this state there is total merger into God, the body literally becomes lifeless. This is no exaggeration. This is not some similie or allegory. I have seen this happen to a few great people multiple times.

Anyway, after years and years of practice, he achieved Samadhi. When he woke up there was the light of experience on him. He was enjoying the new found peace and joy. Now, it so happened, that his divine joy was not shared by everyone. In particular there were some birds, who did not appreciate his greatness and they were comfortably perched on the tree above him and decided to give him a shower. This is the kind of shower, bird poop shower is not taken favorably by anyone. I know how irritating it was for me, when more than one occasion bird poop was on my windshield – (and in my amazing genius i created a blob of poop into a paste all over my windshield with the wiper). The saint was no exception and how dare these puny creatures destroy his joy! All he had to do was to look up. Which he did, but in the anger, when he looked up, the birds instantly died and fell lifeless at his feet

This gave him a supreme realization, that Samadhi is not just a fantasy. It comes up real tangible power. (Reflect on this, reflect on the fantasy meditation most people have). He was no even more elated than before. Sadly once we are back in the body, the human afflictions take over. He felt hungry. He goes to the village and followed the tradition of a Sanyasi and begged for alms.

The first house he visits was a business mans house. He stood outside the compound and cried out loudly, “Bhikshan dehi, Bhikshan dehi”. (More on the yogic interpretation later). This literally means, give me alms. The woman in the house promptly came out to see who it was. She told him, wait for a few minutes, let me finish serving my husband. So she went back in and finished serving her husbands meal. Now it so happens, she was so busy serving, she forgot to give Bhiksha or meals to the saint. An hour or so later, she remembered her mistake. She promptly went out with alms and served it to the saint.
She apologized to the saint but ended the apology and an twinkle in her eye and said I am not a bird, that I will perish!

Those words struck the saint like a thunderbolt. How did this woman know what happened in the forrest. I was alone. No one saw me. He begged the woman to tell him, how he knew this. The woman would not budge. Finally after much delay she said, if you want to know, you should go to my Guru. Oh, he said, where may I find this great Sanyasi? She laughed and said, go to the village. He is a butcher

All concepts that this saint had about a saint and a guru disappeared. He was perplexed and began to debate his own power of meditation and what sainthood is. He asked the people and finally made his way to the Vyadha / butcher. The moment he saw the butcher, the butcher said, did my disciple send you here?. Mind you in those days there were no telephones or secret cameras and people in those days were honest. They did not look to make money or make disciples.

The butcher smiles and said, you great sir you are most welcome. Please have a seat and wait till I finish my business. The saint, a strict vegetarian, was forced to sit at the footsteps of a businessman, and that too a butcher. I am sure the smell and the sight was agonizing. Somehow, he managed to spend the day eagerly waiting for the Vyadha / butcher to finish his duties.

And then the butcher, recited the highest wisdom. This wisdom, is known as Vyadha Gita. He extols about the self or Atman and how the atman is never tainted by any actions pertaining the body. However, any body awareness or ego, is binding and will give you karma and consequences. The only way to get final emancipation is by finishing the remaining karma, in whatever fashion God has given. But it must be carried out, without desire, ego

Now to get rid of body consciousness, one must first perfect it in meditation and going into Samadhi. Not once or twice. Repeatedly. Finally at will. When I say at will, within seconds. When that practice becomes perfect, then you can go back to the world and perform all your duties, without ego or body consciousness.

This is where the karma yogi have created a grave error in interpretation. They think that in Bhagwad Gita, God says that karma yogi is the highest. This is true. However, before you become a karma yogi, you have to practice it within by going into samadhi repeatedly. You cannot expect to be able to do actions without desire or body consciossness or ego unless it has been properly sacrificed in Samadhi.

Babaji, has a deeper more subtle meaning. Yogananda describes this in God talks with Arjuna in chapter 2. He divides it into 3 karmas. True karma is taking the prana within through the brahma nadi and going into Samadhi. That is true karma yoga. when the prana makes it exit through the sensations and motor actions of the body it is called akarma. Bad karma itself.

However, this profound wisdom will not be accepted by most people. Why? They want to take the easy road of thinking all the activities they do of eating food, enjoying sex, hearing words of praise and doing work forms Karma yoga and they will be liberated. Such faulty thinking may deceive the average man but God, cannot be fooled by such egotistic bodily gratifications. It does not form true karma.

Contradiction

Someone posed a question – the blogs of top secret shakti and a big book – are they contradictory?

I described in detail about awakening of shakti. The long course with multiple levels of awakening

But in the next breath I say all you need is silence the mind and what is left is pure consciousness

Are the two things contradictory?

The answer is no. You are only aware of the puny mind that we deal with in day to day life! That is one of the smallest section where the mind exists

Look at this way – you may try to silence your mind. But it quickly goes into sleep a dream. Another manifestation of darkness of the mind. And when you can silence the dream world and the physical world, another layer of slumber crops up We love slumber. So intense and satisfying. But still a layer of mind.

Now the number of areas and layers of the mind is so many, that it takes time to be victorious

So both are true once we recognize the sovereign empire created by our mind and the places it visits in life and after life

Sincere souls!

“I can give my life for a sincere Soul”
“”””””””””””””””””””””””‘””‘”””””””
I can give my life for a sincere Soul, but insincer souls I stay away from. I am never insincere with anyone, and that is the way we all should live in this world. We must be fearless, sincer, surrounded not only with those whom we can inspire, but with those who can inspire us as well. When we are strong, then we can help those who are evil. But don’t try to help them until you yourself are stronger. Otherwise their company may weaken you instead. So many who try to reform others become infected with their evil…….
Sri Sri Paramahansa Yogananda.
The Divine Romance. P.113

And that is one of the reason why Guru often stay away From the smart people. They are insincere. They want to knowledge but don’t want God

Also he warns us not to go help others till you yourself have perfected your path!

Sincere souls are indeed rare. Most people don’t want to give up physical pleasures

A big book!

When you can’t understand things you need an explanation

If you still can’t get it you need a bigger book and a book on the explanation

If you still can’t get it you need an encyclopedia

But a smart person gets it in one word

Shivohum.

You are shiv.

Now it creates all the problems! The mind wants to understand. Then an explanation. Then wants to know how to reach there. And the method to get there

Truthfully, nothing is needed. You trying to understand is the beginning of failure. And it goes downhill from there

This is what yukteshwar Maharaj said

The rishis wrote in one sentence profundities that

commentating scholars busy themselves over for

generations. Endless literary controversy is for

sluggard minds. What more quickly liberating thought

than “God is” – nay, “God”?

Swami Sri Yukteswar—in Autobiography of a Yogi

That’s why yoga! Meditation. Stop thinking. What is left is pure experience

Top secret – Shakti

Since this is top secret – my description will be very incomplete too

So, if you are a con artist and want to impress a lot of people or your a magician, and you want to fool people, what do you do?

You create an aura of mystery, let the audience fill in the gaps with their own imagination and now you have a great Mystic Guru with millions of followers. Simple isnt it? Throw in a few fancy words like chakra, shakti, awakening , surely this person should be now worshipped !

I am of course being very sarcastic.

What I am going to share now, is something most people are not aware of. Why? Because the Gurus themselves, since they are quite ignorant themselves, cant reveal it either.

So in my own mind, almost all of the Gurus, mystics, fakirs, monks, etc have a very simplistic point. And that is all they can talk about. They are like a 2 year old boy, walking around with a fake stethoscope claiming to be Dr. Since the audience is just as ignorant, they easily have millions of followers

Enough bashing about the Gurus out there.

So lets get the basics very clear. What is shakti? Pure consciousness has 2 aspects, static and dynamic. The dynamic aspect of consciousness is Shakti. When it is turned outward, towards the world, the terminology is shakti is asleep. An awakened shakti is when it turns back towards itself.

So a Guru turns the Shakti back on itself. Thats all. However, it does not happen completely. It happens in 4 steps.

  1. Kriyavati
  2. Kalawati
  3. Varnamayi
  4. Vedhamayi. There is a 5th secret step. Hey, its secret..I cant post it here

There are also 5 levels. Not just the above. The 5 levels in addition to the steps are Shanti atita, Shanti, Vidya, Pratistha and Nivritti.

I only mention these things because it has been published in Devatma Shakti. Otherwise this information would have died with my last breath.

Now the awakened shakti has to progress through, 224 spheres or Bhuvan, at the 5 levels and through 36 tattwas. Tattwas are different elements of creation in the subtle and causal world. The gross physical world, is not discussed yet.

So, I have described the process, the exciting journey back. You may go huh? And then go back to your hole saying oh, all theory, or no truth to it.

These steps are all above the physical creation. As long as you are aware of the physical creation, you have not made the inward turn.

Remember the example that I gave you of the 2 year old boy pretending to be a doctor? Thats all, the level that , the rest of the world describes and talks about. You may think they are all great and extraordinary, and every one has a different way of looking at things.

My requirements are must stringer. I dont want to be deceived by childish view points of meditation.

An old repost

“Sundere sundero ram sundere sunderi katha
Sundere sunderi sita sundere Kim na sunderem”

This verse says most beautiful is Ram and Sita and their story

That’s why Sunderkand is very beautiful. This is a chapter in Ramadan

The real reason is Sunderkand has detailed yoga related instruction written in a very cryptic way.

Hanuman flies over the ocean, Pauses on mountain top, hits lankini, she throws up blood, and then Hanuman encounters ravana etc

It is an incredibly beautiful allegory. Hence beautiful

What more can I say ?

Oh btw, another beauty – it is story of creation Ram and Sita , a triangle of shree chakra

In continuation – peace

So those very fortunate people who are given peace – peace to such a high degree. And joy to that degree – are worthless
Worthless from a society standpoint. They remain incapable to work. Once in that state , that state is so intoxicating, they don’t move from one place to another. They lie Or sit. Don’t even talk. Or Eat.
They constantly drink the immortal nectar living off the inner light This is what the Bible said. This is what all Yoga text book say. Such a high state is rare.

So all the avatars in their life time will visit such great saints and worship them. Rama visited many such great saints during his time in the forest. It is possible Christ during his missing years met them too

Ramkrishna paramhansa remained in that high state. He gave it to Vivekananda for a short time. Then took it back! If I give it to you longer, you will not do my work or talk with others.

Yogananda met some of those saints, constantly in divine ecstasy. They are what I call as Saint makers They invite divine vibrations so the saints may emerge. But they themselves remain hidden. No where to be found

I believe many such Saints are there in india. Hidden. We can’t ever find them. They are not in public. Somewhere in some inaccessible place. That don’t require food. If someone is ready get called.

They are fully aware of us. There were a few like that in Girnar. They left their body a few years ago. No one new of them. They never left the forests

I am their child and pray to them to glance at me for just a second. Not greedy!

How words betray you!

Here is an incorrect understanding. His words betrayed his level of experience

Your inner peace or happiness depends exclusively on how you train your brain with your mind. Brain is an organ, mind is consciousness. With daily meditation and practice of mindfulness, japa and worship, the energy centres (chakras) slowly balance and align with higher intelligence. More sincere and focused you are with your daily practice of not spending more time fixing external situations…

I will not finish the rest what he said ! This was posted by someone in my medical group Who is an ardent follower of a Guru

WHAT HE HAS WRITTEN IS NONSENSE

Peace is something tangible. Something like a dollar or a gold coin. It can be transferred. It can be lost. With purity of consciousness the abstract form goes away and now freely available ! That peace is Shankar. That is given on shakti awakening. That is under the control of an enlightened person!

Peace is not dependent On the mind or attitude. The mind and intellect or brain bows to it. They totally lose their power to go to the world

So I urge people not to read books or random blog filled with ignorance

There is an interesting story. Ramkrishna Paramhansa slowly became more famous. One local wealthy business man approached him and wanted awakening! Ramkrishna said no. Your not ready yet. Just leave. Now this person was adamant. Approached him repeatedly.

Who wouldn’t? Awakening is a wonderful thing. So finally Ramkrishna said fine. Kicked him. And then the person left

2 weeks later he goes back to Ramkrishna and said take your awakened shakti back. I don’t want it. I am not ready yet. Ramkrishna asked why? What happened.

Now Ramkrishna of course knew what happened. But for the benefit of other disciples he has asked.

The man lamented. So after the awakening I was having wave after wave of perpetual joy and peace. It was very intense. I could not focus on my business, wife or children. Now my business is folding. Family is unhappy. Please take it away. How can I work ?

So we may think we are ready. But we are not. We would be unhappy if something happened to our family, money. After all in this world you need money. Do you really want to live on the mercy of others?

So whatever a Guru does is perfect. Accurate. Whatever meager awakening we get is always more than we are ready for

Not everyone is born ready like Vivekananda or Yogananda! All their life that’s all they did. And never worked. The arrangement for money was made by God in subtle hidden ways

I was also punished this way by my Guru. I kept asking for a taste of divine love. It was unbearable. Fortunately it was short lived for a few months Why unbearable? Curiously the love of God is present in every atom. Every living being. From an insect to humans. It is that very love that humans have not grasped. It was twisted and used for material things. That is the divine throb of The heart of Shiv

So now you know peace and joy is tangible. Not dependent on circumstances or attitude

Don’t listen to wrong things and struggle and waste your life with wrong ideas

The wrong words of the person betrayed him that he has a long way to go ( the first paragraph)

The converse is true

Your true personality begins to develop
when you are able, by deep intuition, to
feel that you are not this solid body but
are the divine eternal current of Life and
Consciousness within the body.
Paramahansa Yogananda
“Man’s Eternal Quest”

So this is a sign of progress. A true first step. Until then we are grappling in the dark and imagining perfection

That inner intuition.
Spiritual progress is not imagination. It is not a fantasy that you go about saying shivohum, shivohum , that you are shiv or your the soul

That would be foolish wouldn’t it be? Saying I am shiv? Or like every religion says oh the soul

Foolish mind, wake up. What is the point of saying your Atman and even experiencing it when there is no gain?

If there is no gain, don’t pursue it. Stop reading my blogs

The answer is there is tremendous gain ! Peace Joy.
But what about food on my table? What about my daily life and work?

The answer is there is tremendous gain in daily and day to day life. Work is easier. Less stressful. In the very first basic, childish step you become more and more aware of events about you unfold before it happens

These things start to occur as consciousness opens up And you forget body and are aware of true self consciousness.

Then, yogi will smile and say shakti is awakened. The first baby step.

So when you become more and more aware of true self, then no effort is to be made. Your personality finally changes. Your interest in things goes away . You become calmer. Have love for others
Things no longer has a strong hold on you

These are the true signs you have made a Step. I am not interested in the folks who brag about mediation or Atman or Samadhi

And the converse is also true. If you have not made any steps, shakti is not awakened, then you don’t have daily intuition.

Pure consciousness is synonymous with increasing intuition.

Don’t cheat yourself into fake thoughts of progress

Btw : this takes a long time. Don’t rush it. You will make it slower. Why, if you rush it, there is less peace in mind. A mind without peace cannot know God.

Why can’t I recognize an advanced person?

Our filter and our ego

We already have a preconceived opinion. In most people mind a Guru will be a monk of sort
He will wear saffron clothes
Might be shaved
Speaks softly
Has knowledge

Do you know what is missing?

Think about it! What is missing? The most important thing – having true experience!!!

Without that none of the above matters

And if you have experience?

If you have experience
Clothes or no clothes Who cares?
Shaved or bald, who cares?
Monk or married why cares?
Read books or illiterate, who cares?

If God is in your hand
And your in Gods hand
Both happens simultaneously
What does anything matter?

But you can’t see or recognize it

The person does not meet your filter
Plus the opposite is true. You so much believe in the wrong figure, that anything he says you will accept.

Plus , if I say you you can only meet God when the moon is half, people will think i am crazy but never ask why!

There are many great liberated saints who passed by. They will say everything quite openly. But fools will ignore them

Reva Bharati was an enlightened soul. She walked around the village in Broad daylight with a candle. No one asked why?

Why ? She was saying my light is brighter than what you see. I walk with the light of God

This light of God is real. Not an allegory
Yogananda said, with a little practice you can see it brighter than daylight

This is one reason why we fail

The other reason is your ego. People in general have a concept about God. It could be God sitting on a throne to God looking like Jesus or God dressed like Ram. But that is your ego limiting God. He May be that way but could be in a million other ways. Why impose your limitations, your intellectual disability on God?

What an enlightened person says is 100% true. You may not grasp it. Plus they reveal very little

God gives them the permission to remain incognito

I have enjoyed being in their presence. Wish I was able to absorb full benefit!

Be wise!

So today I saw a picture of a shivling. With some water droplets around it abs they called it ananda and yellow drops as consciousness and light rays as shanti and the channel as shakti

What nonsense!

What happens is we read a few words and join it to to shivling and in a haphazard way

Such things are not spiritually helpful. They deter us from grasping the truth. Only the words of a true saint are valid

Do you really think this is a path of imagination??

Never spread ignorance or promote it

Shiv ling – refers to bindu – the origin of all creation. Including the gross material universe.
The snake is shakti doing its pradikshana around the creator paying her tribute. Even her origin is entirely dependent on shiv

There is much more to it as described by Vishnutirthji maharaj and Gurudev.
But that is an experience and perfect description of Sahastrar!

Failure

Success develops arrogance and the man’s spiritual progress is thus arrested.

Failure on the other hand is beneficial, inasmuch as it opens the eyes of the man to his limitations and prepares him to surrender himself.
-Talk 423.
Sri Ramana Maharshi

The question is – does the same apply to spiritual progress?

Depends on the Guru! Let’s say your stuck with cult or a path not conducive to progress. Then wouldn’t failure be a good way to pull you out?

And if in a cult, wouldn’t the success keep you locked in longer?

Now if you have a true Guru, he will give you , randomly a few experiences but then you have to fight your own emotional demons!

Our emotional demons and ego prevents progress!

My mistake

One of the biggest error I made in mediation is thinking once I have a Guru and shakti is awakened life is a path of roses
Also thinking that from now on I will have multitude of spirtual experiences every day and my personality will change!

Nothing of farther from the truth

Problems in life multiply
Your patience is tested to see can you wait for experiences
My personality took decades for a slight change

So best is if you change yourself first. There is much home cleaning to be done while you wait for a Guru
99% of the people will still lose the path even after having a perfect Guru. Why? Home cleaning was not done

Levels of Progress – from Mahayoga

Once again, this is part two of the above blog. It has been written for my children. May I request you, if your not my children to skip the blog please?

There are 4 levels or steps in progress

Prarambha Avastha. This is the beginning stage Here one begins to experience smaller signs of awakening of the shakti. This can include recitation, activity of body etc.

Ghata avastha: this is where the mind becomes stronger. The impurities of the mind begin to wither away
Shakta diksha gives these two awakening initially
The first two stages described above go on simultaneously. It goes on for years or even births. The body and the mind has to be made stronger for further progress.

Parichaya Avastha or Siddha avastha. This is called parichaya meaning that you finally meet God. You know the mechanism of how God created the universe and your body. You begin to understand delusion. The experiences are of extraordinary level
What are the physical signs ? The disciple now is able to withdraw his life senses from the body and lie lifeless in Samadhi. The key thing is, when he takes his life sensation away from his hand, his hand becomes numb. This is of course at will. Without these signs, it would be futile to think that you have made progress. Those who have reached this level , can destroy other peoples karma at ease. He can help many other people.
Those at this stage are more likely to be helpful. Since they have extra ordinary power, it is called Siddha Avastha

In Giri sampradaya, the starting point of awakening is Siddha Avastha. Sadly very few can hold on to that highest awakening, where all lower chakras are penetrated, the body is lifeless in samadhi and you remain merged in the divine. Without purity of the mind one cannot maintain this even though, you received the highest. This is the Vedha diksha. Our efforts and search for Guru at this point only brings us down and not upward.

Nishpati Avastha. They are the highest. Not much can be said about them. They are like Narayan Tirthji Maharaj or Parmanand tirthji Maharaj.

Different Yogas

The world is innundated with different yogas. Whatever path you follow, I wish you luck
The following blog is written for my children. It is very basic but yet profound. May I request you that if you are not my children, perhaps you should stick with whatever definition of yoga you have and not read further?

I only believe and follow the traditional yoga. I do not acknowledge the newer yogas such as vikram yoga etc.

Yoga means to get united (with God)

There are words which people use such as bhakti yoga, gyana yoga and karma yoga. I will not talk about them, but they are already present in true yoga. People who do not want to follow traditional yoga, are deluded in thinking they perform gyana yoga or bhakti yoga by singing or dancing and karma yoga by merely performing action. Truth is those things cannot be performed without perfection of Yoga

Most of the things I have written is from Maha Yoga. It is also known as Siddha yoga.

Before we go to those yoga, let us talk about the traditional four other yogas

Mantra yoga : here the disciple is given a mantra and slowly the recitation takes them within. In this Yoga it takes 12 years for realization

Laya Yoga : This is more of a pleasant meditation where the disciple is given an inner manifestation of God and he trains his mind to merge into God that way. It takes 9 years for realization

Hatha Yoga : Here the disciple is given the secret of prana, or chi. Prana is not breathing. It is a maha shakti. Disciples who are given this achieve success in 6 years.

Raja Yoga : Raja people consider it to be the royal way. And since not much as been written about it, people have generally considered anything they do as Raj yoga. This of course is not true. I have written about this in great detail elsewhere. WIth this method success is in 3 years

The time frame of 12, 9, 6 and 3 years has been given in Mahayoga.. The word used was realization. Even after realization much work has to be done.

So, now what is Mahayoga or Siddha yoga? It is a combination of above. Shakti when awakened does the actions and does it best suited for the personality of the disciple.

The question then comes up why do people practice Yoga for many births while here success is talked about in at most 12 years? Paramhansa Yogananda talked about success in 12 years, no matter who the disciple is. Most assuredly.

So we do not get success that quickly for 2 reasons
We do not practice diligently and follow all the injunctions
Each of those yoga are given to a disciple with many ideal characteristics. We have all the flaws and very little qualities so, in truth we are not ready for any of the above awakening. That is sad but the bitter truth.

Negativity versus Positive attitude :Difficult but very successful

The greatest thing you can do to
cultivate true wisdom is to practice the
consciousness of the world as a dream.
If failure comes, say: “It is a dream.”
Then shut off the thought of failure
from your mind. In the midst of
negative conditions, practice
“opposition” by thinking and acting in a
positive, constructive way.
Paramahansa Yogananda
“Man’s Eternal Quest”

I am a witness to this statement. One of my uncles, has lived all his life this way! Nothing in this world has ever phased him

He has influenced and nurtured me the most. I have seen many dramatic events in his life – never once have I seen him upset or be negative about life

Even circumstances in his life has bowed down before him I have often said if only I could have his personality and attitude, you can be the greatest yogi for sure in your next life!

The mind has been preprogrammed to have doomsday scenario. This has to be stopped. Even though you have had failures a thousand times in the past

Only condition is continue to act in the righteous way

How to quiet the mind?

A very common problem.
Universal.
We can focus the mind with ease on tasks related to worldly activity.
But tell the mind to stop thinking, start to see the divine, love God, etc and it a Herculean task

Maha yoga vigyan and paramhansa Yogananda talk about it very clearly
My blogs have said it clearly. Yet no one picks up on it. Even those with awakened shakti will not gasp it or follow it or implement it

The mind, emotions, prana and breath are all interrelated. When anyone stops all the other things stop automatically

The very advanced spiritual souls can stop the mind at will. That is what Ramana maharshi did. He did say though that those who can do it were great yogi in the past.

In general we need all steps. If you can stop getting emotional, the mind loses 80% of its Power. On the other hand if you remain analytical and emotional even an awakened shakti can’t take you to the divine

This is why Yama and niyama is needed – control of thoughts and body.

Eat less. Always get off dinner plate feeling hungry. You can never meditate with a very full stomach.
No alcohol. Sorry
Meat Dulls the mind for mediation

Practice practice. Practice. The mind has many years of going randomly in all directions. It is foolish to think you can control it in a month or a year!

But slowly and in small steps it gets subdued.
Staying and talking with someone who has control helps intensely

Don’t get impatient

Certain traits automatically give control. True love for others. Forgiving others who hurt you. Faith in God. Reading my blogs gives more Wisdom and gives you a quest and hope

There are more things but who knows if I will have the energy to write it

Chidananda Rupa Shivohum Shivohum

From ~~~ Day by Day with Bhagavan, 21-8-46.

Q.;
Shankara says we are all free, not bound,
and that we shall all go back to God
from whom we have come as sparks from fire.
Then, why should we not commit all sorts of sins?

Bhagavan:
It is true we are not bound, i.e.,
the real Self has no bondage.
It is true you will eventually go back to your source.

But meanwhile,
if you commit sins, as you call them,
you have to face the consequences of such sins.
You cannot escape their consequences.

If a man beats you, then, can you say,
‘I am free, I am not bound by these beatings
and I don’t feel any pain. Let him beat on?’

If you can feel like that,
you can go on doing what you like.

What is the use
of merely saying with your lips
‘I am free?’

This is a good discussion showing the foolishness of human logic. We use arguments to our benefit when convenient to us.

When not convenient, we twist things

Let’s take the example of COvid 19

Everyone reads the Gita. We know about death, the soul changing bodies like clothes. Don’t lament. But yet, all the great readers and takers of religion walk in fear of the virus and fear of death. Yes be cautious and careful but don’t be paralyzed by fear !
God has tested great saints by taking away their dearest and at that moment are they able to maintain the wisdom of soul and body?

I can say I am not there. But I do pray to God , please never test anyone in this cruel way!

Information versus experience

The reason that God remains unknown to millions who worship Him in temples and churches, and in holy cities and places of pilgrimage, is that the physical instruments of knowledge can apprehend only the products of the Creator; Divinity Itself is perceived by the supramental faculty of intuition, the soul’s God-given power of knowing truth.

When mental restlessness is stilled and the consciousness is interiorized, in touch with the soul, the God-revealing intuitive faculty is awakened.

~Paramahansa Yogananda

Practice the truth you hear and read about, so that it is not just an idea but a conviction born of experience.

If reading books on theology satisfies your desire for God, you have not grasped the purpose of religion.

Do not settle for intellectual satisfaction about truth. Convert truth into experience, and you will know God through your own Self-realization.

~Paramahansa Yogananda
“Man’s Eternal Quest”

Two great quotes. A reminder to meditate and develop intuition from mediation

Why does meditation help develop intuition?

One the mind is still. When the mind is more still intuition- a sudden flash and then a vision of what will happen occurs

The other reason is there is a sequence of unfolding that occurs with intuition.
It is just a thought. It is something that develops slowly with opening of the Brahmanadi

Opening of the Brahmanadi – is the only way to be with God. It is the tunnel people talk about with near death experience. It opens during death ( and a few other times) and during mediation. If during mediation it has not opened, then one must try harder. Until it fully opens, intuition is not developed. Nor is the contact with God complete. Even after opening it takes many layers to reach there So don’t imagine the deep Slumber joy as a sign of profound meditation

How do you know that Brahmanadi is open?
Joy, tremors, feeling dizzy, loss of consciousness, seeing light in a tunnel, seeing light and both nostril are open. The last is critical some othersome other signs can be misconceived

By far of all the blog’s This is a critical blog preventing you from walking in the wrong direction

Novel

This life is a master novel, written by God, and man would go crazy if he tried to understand it by reason alone. That is why

I tell you to meditate more. Enlarge the magic cup of your intuition and then you will be able to hold the ocean of infinite wisdom.

Paramahansa Yogananda—Sayings of Paramahansa Yogananda

A word of caution

Intuition. You have to learn to differentiate intuition from pure mental imagination

99.99% will have like tolike to zero intuition

Yes sporadic you might have gut feelings. That does not necessarily mean intuition. Often times we don’t have gut feelings but base things on visual clues of the persons face, body language etc.

What I am talking about is – when you wake up in morning, you know you will have a busy day at work, whether you should take left or right turn on a traffic jam, know which lane to turn to park when the parking lot is full, etc
If you notice I did not include people who will call you etc because often times that is more apparent. The moment someone thinks of you something within you moves And alters you

On the more positive side, the final chapter gives immense peace and joy about the super novel written by God

Despair not !

~Kabir-related films, books, links~   (

info from Linda Hess)

*Indicates film or book featuring Prahlad Singh Tipanya, renowned Kabir singer from the Malwa region of Madhya Pradesh. Born in the small village of Lunyakhedi, with no musical background in his family, Prahlad-ji joined the local tradition of singing Kabir bhajans in the melodious and vigorous folk style of Malwa. He gradually became one of the most magnetic and highly sought-after folk artists in North India, singing with passion and commenting with deep insight and with humor on the meaning of the songs. He has performed in countless places from small Indian villages to prominent venues in India’s great cities and international stages in the US, Canada, and UK. He has received many honors, including the prestigious Padma Shri award in 2011.
The Kabir Project, based in Bangalore ( http://kabirproject.org/ ), headed by Shabnam Virmani, is located in the Srishti College of Art, Design, and Technology, where Shabnam is artist in residence. She and her team have produced an amazing (ajab!) web archive, recently launched after many years of work: www.ajabshahar.org   It has a great wealth of songs, texts, discussions, etc. You will find a lot of Kabir, but also songs of other related traditions and poets, such as Baul songs, Sufi songs, qawwaali.
The Kabir Project produced four wonderful feature-length documentary films, directed by Shabnam. Each has its own stories and main questions. She and I started our projects separately but became friends and did a lot together from 2003 to 2015, and continuing. You will find three of these films on the ajabshahar website, “Films” tab, as well as on youtube, and the fourth on a different site. Here are the youtube links:
*** * Chalo Hamara Des/**Come to My Country: Journeys with Kabir and Friends(Dur: 98 min),  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=waOosA3Rf1g    features famous Kabir folksinger Prahlad
Singh Tipanya and a lot of wonderful music. Also has me in it, as it explores Kabir’s cross-cultural voice.
*** Had-Anhad/ Bounded-Boundless:**Journeys with Ram and Kabir(Dur: 103 min),
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dr83axn1IbM     the most widely viewed of the four, with enthralling music, fascinating Sufi singers in Rajasthan and Pakistan, and some political implications.
*** * Kabira Khada Bazar Mein/**In the Market Stands Kabir: Journeys with Sacred and Secular Kabir (Dur: 94 min),  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s9hMVeTaUw8     great for the study of religion, history of religion, and social/political questions. How do we understand the development of a Kabir religion with hierarchy, rules and rituals, when his teaching so thoroughly criticized sectarianism, boundaries, and reliance on external forms? A story dramatized in the lives of people in the film, with plenty of music. I told this story with a different set of discussions in chapter 6 of my book Bodies of Song.
The fourth documentary film is not on the same website but can be found here:

One Hundred Poems of Kabīr

translated by Rabindranath Tagore, published in 1914 by the India Society in London, in 1915 by Macmillan and Company, and subsequently in many editions. Tagore was a great Bengali writer, artist, and composer, the first Asian to win the Nobel Prize for Literature. His versions give a view of a kind of style, insight, and perspective prevalent in the Indian/British nexus of high culture in the early 20

th### century. In the 1970s the American poet Robert Bly published new versions of nearly half of Tagore’ 100 poems. He saw grerat beauty and power in Kabir and in Tagore’s renderings but felt the translations needed to be transformed for a contemporary audience. Bly’s Kabir became very popular and influential.
